Maurizio Di Iorio
54th International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale - Pavilion Italian, “Palazzo delle esposizioni” - sala Nervi, Turin, Italy
I posted some of his photos about a week ago or something. A lot of the same type of “candid snapshots” of the same few Italian-looking babes. A lot of very consciously made photographic “mistakes”. A lot of “candid” semi-nudity, a little bit of highly innocent nudity. The latest project a heavily tattooed “alternative-chic” girl posing in the waves, smoking in the IKEA kitchen, backlighted and serious with smuged out mascara, poking in the sand crouched like a child. Except her perky a-cups figure in most of the pictures. Some editorial for VICE. Obviously very hip.
Very uneven I’d say. And very, very predictable. Also he has put several of his images in more than one of his “projects”, which to me comes across as uninspired and repetitive.
Worth a place at the Venice Biennale? Fuck no. That shit should be inspirational and inspired, exciting and original. Not stale and rehashed, cleaned up and hipified versions of the same ol’, same ol’ alternative erotica that has littered the internet for years. Yawn.
